Managed Switches

Additional measures can be taken to further protect the DeltaV system from unauthorized access. Preventing a physical connection to unused ports on a managed Ethernet switch is effective in protecting against unauthorized access. Emerson recommends combining the following two methods to prevent an unauthorized connection:

• Locking rooms or cabinets to limit access to managed switches
• Using DeltaV network management to lock unused switch ports

Unmanaged Switches

There is no way to lock the ports when unmanaged switches are used in conjunction with the firewall IPD. Therefore, the only way to prevent unauthorized physical connections to these devices is to keep them in a locked enclosure or rack room.
