This problem can occur if the TEMP user variable is not set or if the value for this variable has been changed from C:\Temp, and the computer is not rebooted. Since the Event Chronicle creates two temp files when it is opened, it might fail to open if this variable is deleted or if the value for this variable has changed without a reboot.
