The method to commission smart switches is to use the Network Device Command Center (NDCC). NDCC automates most of the tasks required to commission a switch. The following steps are the recommended method of commissioning switches. Unless you have a large DeltaV system or other requirements, these steps should be all that is required:
All of the installed switches should appear in NDCC under the Decommissioned Switches branch of the tree view pane. NDCC detects whether the switches are on the primary or secondary network. The switch names are the hardware (MAC) addresses of the switches.
From the Commission dialog in NDCC enter the following information about the switch:
A switch module is created from the appropriate switch module class and an IP address is assigned to the switch.
If the current node is not appropriately licensed, an error appears. Go to the ProfessionalPLUS workstation and download the modules from there.
When the download is complete, the switch in the Decommissioned branch disappears and a switch with the name you entered appears in the Commissioned branch. The module begins polling the switch for information. Alarms and diagnostics information appears without further setup.
All of the switches on both the primary and secondary network should now appear in the Commissioned Switches branch of the tree view pane.
