Remote installation

Installing DeltaV software on a remote workstation is basically the same as installing DeltaV software on a local workstation.

You must be logged in as an administrator to install DeltaV. In a domain, a domain administrator with local administrator privileges is required. In a workgroup, a local administrator is required.

Note

You must have the same DeltaV Services Account (DeltaVAdmin) password on the remote workstations as on the machines in the DeltaV system. Use either the DeltaV Security Administration application (Start → All Programs → DeltaV → Installation) or the ServPwd utility (located in the \DeltaV\Bin directory) to change this password.

  1. Execute the normal DeltaV installation on the DeltaV computer (ProfessionalPlus or Application Station) that will be the Remote Access Server (RAS).

    Note

If you have already installed the DeltaV software without designating a remote server, you do not need to reinstall the software. You can designate a workstation as a remote server by running DeltaV Workstation Configuration and checking the Workstation will be a Remote Access Server box when on a ProfessionalPLUS or the Allocate resource for Remote Access Server box when on an Application Station.

  2. Execute DeltaV Workstation Configuration on the ProfessionalPLUS. Check the Workstation will be a Remote Access Server box when on a ProfessionalPLUS or the Allocate resource for Remote Access Server box when on an Application Station indicating that this machine will be a remote server.
  3. Using DeltaV Explorer, enable the remote network subsystem on the Remote Access Server node
    1. Expand the node's hierarchy.
    2. Right click the Remote Network subsystem and select Properties.
    3. Select Enable Remote Network (or Enable Remote Network Redundancy) on the Remote Network Properties dialog.
    4. Download the node.
  4. Add the remote workstations to the remote network subsystem.
    1. Expand the Remote Access Server's hierarchy.
    2. Right click the Remote Network subsystem and select New Remote Operator Station or New Remote Application Station (only available when the Remote Access Server is an Application Station).
  5. Export the Workstation Configuration data file (DevData.cfg by default) to removable media or a network location that can be accessed by the remote workstation.
  6. On the remote workstation, execute the DeltaV installation on the remote computer and select the appropriate remote node type (Remote Operator Station or Remote Application Station).
  7. Execute the DeltaV Workstation Configuration program on the remote workstation to complete the installation and configuration process. You must choose the appropriate network IP address for the connection to the DeltaV system. This can be a dedicated network or a shared, plant-wide network provided the DeltaV system also has that network and the IP address is static.
  8. When the DeltaV Workstation Configuration program asks for it, browse to the Workstation Configuration data file (DevData.cfg by default)you created and saved earlier to complete the remote workstation setup.
  9. From the originating DeltaV system, download the remote workstation.

IP addresses

DeltaV software assigns IP addresses to all the workstations in the control network. Remote workstations typically will already have an IP address to enable them to connect to a plant or office LAN. When you install DeltaV software on a remote workstation, the software finds the available IP addresses and network adapters for that machine. You must select from this list of available choices as the DeltaV software does not assign new addresses to remote workstations. DeltaV software requires that a permanent IP address be assigned to the machine, DHCP is not supported.

Note
If the IP address of either the Remote Network or the DeltaV ACN should change, you must run Workstation Configuration on all workstations involved in this order:
  1. ProfessionalPLUS (only if a download is indicated)
  2. The Remote Access Server (RAS) node
  3. The remote workstations
