Restore the configuration database

Restoring a backup that was created from the Database Administrator Backup and Restore utility is performed using the same utility. This will restore the backup into the current, active database. If you do not want to do that, you must first create a new database. During the database creation, you can elect to use your backup as the source for the new database.

Restoring a backup using an FHX file as your source is more involved. All steps are covered in more detail in the Database Administrator online help (each utility has a help button on each dialog) and the DeltaV Explorer online help.

  1. Close all database clients (DeltaV Explorer, Control Studio, and so on). You can use the Database Administrator's Database Show Database Connections utility to find any clients that are running.
  2. Using the Database Administrator's Create Database utility, create a new database and leave the option for preserving the network definition deselected.
  3. Once the database is created, set the new database as the active database using the Database Administrator's Set Active Database utility.
  4. When the new database is set as the active database, close the Database Administrator and open DeltaV Explorer.
  5. If you have any custom device definitions in your backup, you must import them into the database library now, before restoring your backup.
  6. To restore your FHX file, select File → Import → Standard DeltaV Format..., browse for your backup file, and click Import.
  7. Browse for your backup file.

Select No to All when prompted to overwrite existing items during the import.

  8. Review the import log found in D:\DeltaV\DVData\importexportprogress.log for any import errors or warnings that need to be addressed. Save a copy of this file to another location for future reference as this file is overwritten at the next import.
  9. Download the workstation.
    Note

The download should be performed only when no import errors are present in the log file or have been addressed. Import errors can mean that some items in the database were not successfully imported making the current database incomplete and not suitable for download.
