Create an extended historical data set

An extended historical data set is one that has been previously exported and subsequently deleted from Primary storage, and then has been imported back into Primary storage using Create Extended History Data Set(s).

To create one or more extended data sets, the user must have the DeltaV security key for the HDS_EXTENDED function, and then complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Create Extended History Data Set(s) icon on the toolbar or select Create Extended History Data Set(s) from the Tools menu.
  2. On the Create Extended History Data Set(s) dialog, click Browse to browse to the exported data set(s) to be used to create extended data sets.

To create more than one extended data set, hold down the CTRL or SHIFT key while selecting.

The selected data sets are listed on the Create Extended History Data Sets dialog, along with their start time, end time, and creation time.

  3. If desired, enter a comment of up to 511 characters in the Comment field.
  4. Click OK.
If you interrupt the process by clicking the Abort button, in-progress creation of an extended data set is not completed; however, any extended data set already created is not affected.
    Note

It may take longer than expected to delete a partially-created data set.

A status message and the number of errors, if any, appears in a Progress Bar dialog.

If a data set to be restored has start and end times that overlap with an online data set, or if a data set name is identical to a current or extended data set already in the database, an extended data set is not created.
