Setup the fault-tolerant server status application

  1. The DVFTSStatus application is located in the \DeltaV\Bin directory by default. Double-click the DVFTSStatus.exe file to start the application. The application window launches in an unconfigured state the first time it is executed.
  2. Enter the ftServer's computer name (or IP address) in the Server field.
  3. Click the Refresh button to manually initiate a query of the ftServers status. The hierarchy will populate with the ftServer status. More than likely, there will be red X's. The red X's denote a bad or missing component. Drill down into the hierarchy to see which components are reporting bad or missing. Verify that these components are not present in this configuration. Once you have done that, clear the check box to remove this component from the overall status compilation. Once you have investigated all the red X's and cleared the necessary check boxes, the overall integrity should be good.

A subsystem with items unchecked below them are noted with yellow yield signs. For example, the default configuration of the Stratus ftServer is with either two or four hard disk drives in the first bays of each SCSI bus. The DVFTSStatus application starts up and searches for hard disk drives in all available bays (up to six). Thus, a red X is shown next to the disks in the empty bays of each SCSI bus. Simply uncheck those to ignore the error.

  4. From DeltaV Explorer, import the DVFTS_Status.fhx file located in the \Deltav\Samples\DVFTS_Status directory. Assign the DVFTS_Status module to the ProfessionalPLUS node and download it.
    Note

With two or more ftServer machines, you must create uniquely named modules for each ftServer machine and download the modules. Configure the DVFTSStatus application on each ftServer machine to communicate to its uniquely named module.

  5. In the DVFTSStatus application, click the check box labeled Write Status to DeltaV to enable the OPC write to the DVFTS_Status module that was just downloaded.
  6. Start the automatic update by clicking the Start button. The default interval is 60 seconds. After 60 seconds has gone by, verify that the DVFTS_Status module does not have an active alarm.
  7. To set the automatic update to start when the application is launched, click the check box labeled Resume Update on Initialization.
  8. Once everything is configured, click the Save Settings button.

The next time the DVFTSStatus application is started, all the current settings will be automatically reinstated. It is recommended that the DVFTSStatus application be placed in the Startup folder so it is automatically started when the user logs in.

Site ID -- A 4 or 5 digit ID that is needed for any support call related to ftServer functionality. If the Site ID field is not filled in, please configure it. To configure this field, follow these steps:

    1. Locate the correct Site ID on the tag at the rear of the computer.
    2. Open the ftServer management tools on the Stratus desktop.
    3. Navigate to ftServer (local) > ftServer Configuration > Customer Info.
    4. Right-click Customer Info, and then enter the Site ID (the one found on the back of the computer) under the second Properties tab.
