Create source linkage in the Batch Historian database

Creating a source linkage links batch equipment to control equipment. This allows continuous process history, event and alarm data, for equipment that a batch uses, to be included in batch reports. The source linkages are stored in the Batch Historian’s database.

Note

Linking one Area to another source or one node to another source does not mean that all items included in that area or node will be linked together. Only individual sources can be linked together.

  1. To open the Source Linkage dialog, select the main database (DVHisDB), and then click Database → Source Linkage. DeltaV Sources, listed in the left-hand pane, are the modules used to control the process. Batch Executive Sources, listed in the right-hand pane, are the equipment used by a batch.
  2. Expand the hierarchy in the DeltaV Source column, and then select the module.
  3. Expand the hierarchy in the Batch Executive Source column, and then select the equipment.
  4. Click the Link button to link the module with the equipment.
    Tip

If a Batch Executive Source is not listed:

Check the input sources listed on the Batch Historian properties page to verify that alarms and events are being sent to the Batch Historian.

Verify that all Alarms and Events subsystems listed as input sources are enabled to collect data.

Force an alarm or event to be generated for the module. This causes the Batch Historian to store the event and recognize the module as a new DeltaV source. The module will appear in the DeltaV Source Pane on the Source Linkage dialog.

Click the New button on the Source Linkage dialog, and then type the name of the module in the following format (omit unit if the module is not assigned to a unit): Area/node/unit/module.

    Tip

If a Batch Executive Source is not listed:

Batch Executive Sources appear in the list only after being used by the Batch Executive. If a Batch Executive Source is not in the list, run a batch or phase that uses the source to place it in the list. (If you run a phase, be sure to run it from the Batch Executive using Manual Phase Control display. If you run it manually from an Operator Interface faceplate, the Batch Executive does not run the phase, does not recognize the source, and does not add it to the Batch Executive Source list.

  5. Enter the dates and time for which this link is valid (for example Valid From: 01/01/99 10:30:00 AM and Valid To: 12/31/99 11:59:59 PM.
    Note

Whenever you link two sources, you can also define the range of time over which the Source Linkage is valid. This means that if the Batch Executive source is used by a batch at any point in time between the Valid From: and Valid To: times, the historical data for the DeltaV source is linked to the batch. The default time range causes the Source Linkage to go into effect immediately and remain valid permanently.

  6. Click the Link button. Once a link is made, the linked sources are displayed in the Active Links panes on the upper right-hand side of the dialog.
  7. Click OK. The link is now listed in the Active Links columns.
    Tip

A source can be linked more than once and used to create multiple Source Linkages. This is often the case for a Batch Executive source. It is common for a single Batch Executive source to have links to more than one DeltaV source so that historical data from more than one module can be included in batch reports, queries, analyses, and so on. When multiple links are created, all of the sources appear in the Links list in the Active Links panes.
