CHARM Scanner Module LEDs

The CHARM Scanner Module has four tri-color LEDs: Active, Standby, COM-A, and COM-B.

The LED behaviors indicate the following conditions for CHARM I/O Scanner Modules installed on a CHARM I/O Gateway:

The LED behaviors indicate the following conditions for CHARM I/O Scanner Modules installed on a CHARM I/O Block:

The LEDs display the following startup sequence when CHARM I/O Scanner Modules are installed on a CHARM I/O Block or Gateway. Some parts of the sequence last longer on the CHARM I/O Gateway.

The following two tables show the LED behaviors of CHARM Scanner Modules installed on CHARM I/O Gateways and CHARM I/O Blocks.

Note

Animated illustrations of the LED behaviors are available only in HTML help files, and only on non-DeltaV machines and DeltaV machines that are part of a workgroup. If you are viewing this topic in PDF form, or on a DeltaV machine that is part of a domain, the LED Behavior columns in the following tables display only static images of the LEDs. If you have Guardian support, you can view an HTML help version of this topic on the Guardian Web site.

Table: LED behaviors of CHARM Scanner Modules installed on CHARM I/O Gateways
LED Behavior Description Indication
LEDs flashing red in pairs: Active and COM-A, then Standby and COM-B Gateway cannot determine whether topology is ring or star because no IOPs are present.
Each LED flashing red in sequence from bottom to top CHARM Scanner Module is loading a new firmware image from its partner.
Each LED flashing red in sequence from top to bottom CHARM Scanner Module is writing the firmware image to its internal Flash drive.
Active and Standby blinking red, COM-A and COM-B blinking yellow DeltaV Diagnostics is running the Start Identify utility.
All four LEDs flashing red simultaneously This CHARM I/O Gateway has the same address as another CHARM I/O Gateway connected to the same CIOC or CSLS. This CHARM I/O Gateway will remain in this state until it is reset even if the other CHARM I/O Gateway is powered off.
Active solid green, Standby flashing green, COM-A and COM-B blinking yellow This simplex CHARM Scanner Module has received a firmware upgrade from WinUpgrade and the upgrade installation is pending. You can initiate the upgrade installation from WinUpgrade or by interrupting communication with CHARMs.
Table: LED behaviors of CHARM Scanner Modules installed on CHARM I/O Blocks
LED Behavior Description Indication
LEDs flashing red in pairs: Active and COM-A, then Standby and COM-B CHARM I/O Block cannot determine its address because it lacks an address plug.
Active and Standby alternating flashing red Firmware in the CHARM I/O Block is incompatible with firmware in the CHARM I/O Gateway. The CHARM I/O Block will remain in this state until the CHARM I/O Gateway sends a new firmware image.
