Move trend lines

You can move a trend line up and down (vertically along the Y scale), to the left and right (horizontally along the time scale), and both vertically and horizontally.

Tip

It is helpful to view data points when moving trend lines. Click View → Options, select the Chart Preferences tab, and click Mark Data Points. The cursor turns into a hand when a data point is selected.

To move a trend line up and down

Select a data point, and then move the trend up and down.

To move a trend line horizontally along the time scale

Hold down the SHIFT key, select a data point, and then move the trend line to the right (forward in time) or left (back in time).

Note

A trend line that has been time shifted appears as a dotted line.

To move a trend line both horizontally and vertically

Hold down the ALT key, select the data point, and then move the trend vertically and horizontally.
