Redundant 24 VDC power is
delivered from bulk power supplies to LS I.S. CHARM I/O through the CHARMs
Smart Logic Solver (CSLS) Carrier.
Note
In most cases, removing
a CHARM from the CHARM baseplate removes power from any connected field device.
However, CHARM type, terminal block type, and external power distribution can
affect whether removing the CHARM removes power from a field device.
Note
In the following image,
the power supplies and CSLS Carrier are installed in a Hazardous, Div. 2 or
Zone 2, Group A, B, C, D location.
Figure: Powering and grounding LS I.S. CHARM I/O
For this procedure, it is
assumed that redundant bulk 24 VDC power supplies and surge suppression/filter
devices are already installed.
Connect the AC power that is feeding the bulk power supplies to
surge suppression/filter devices.
Connect the bulk power supply to the power terminals on the CSLS
Carrier as shown in the preceding image.
Install either a 10 A or a 20 A fuse between the bulk power
supply and the CHARM I/O Carrier.
If your installation contains any standard, non-I.S. CHARMs, you
must use a 20 A fuse. A 10 A fuse is suitable for use only in exclusively I.S.
installations. The fuse must have a breaking capacity greater than 1500 A and a
Um rating of 40 V. The fuse and fuse holder must meet IEC60079-11 requirements.
You can purchase a 20 A fuse and fuse holder, for use in non-ATEX, non-IECEX
applications, from Emerson. Use the following model numbers to order the fuse
and fuse holder:
