Add a firewall

Running the Add Firewall command adds the firewall to the Network Device Command Center (NDCC) and creates the firewall's control module in DeltaV.

The Emerson Smart Firewall must be at the 1.4.47-ga02d206 version or higher in order for the NDCC to communicate with it.

  1. Under Other NetworkCommissioned Devices in the hierarchy, right-click Network.
  2. Select Add Smart Firewall from the context menu.
    The Add Firewall dialog opens.
  3. Enter the required information in the Add Firewall dialog.
  4. Click Add.

The information in the dialog is validated. If no errors are detected, the dialog closes and the Adding a Firewall Status dialog opens. The status dialog lists the actions as they occur.

If the initial steps of adding the firewall are successful, a Confirm Partial Download dialog appears.

NDCC stores the firewall's SNMP password (the management password) in the firewall module's MGINFO parameter and is used by NDCC whenever it needs to communicate with the firewall.

  5. Click Yes on the download dialog.
  6. When the download is successful, click Close.
The Adding a Firewall Status dialog continues updating until actions for adding the firewall are complete.
  7. Click Close on the dialog.
If the firewall is added successfully, a firewall icon with the name you gave the firewall appears in the Commissioned Devices branch of the hierarchy.

When errors do occur in adding a firewall

If an error is encountered, the firewall is not added and an error message appears. Refer to the log file (\DVData\NDCCOperationsProgress.log) for information on the errors.

If the actions for adding a firewall do not complete, you must verify the state of the system as follows:
  • If the error occurred during firewall module creation, verify the module was not created in DeltaV Explorer. If created, delete the module. Download the workstation. Re-commission the firewall.
  • If the error occurred during firewall module download, verify the firewall module was created in DeltaV Explorer and assigned to a workstation. If the firewall module exists and is assigned, download the workstation.
  • If unsure of the state of the firewall module, delete it, download the workstation, and re-add the firewall.
