Discover network devices

The Discover Network Devices command forces NDCC to refresh the list of network devices. This command scans the entire network and retrieves and displays the information.

You should not normally need to use the Discover Network Devices command. The locking, unlocking, and commissioning of devices triggers the Discover Network Devices command immediately. However, in large systems you may need to use the Discover Network Devices command if a newly added or commissioned device does not appear immediately.

The Discover Network Devices command runs automatically every 5 minutes. Other device information is updated at different intervals:
  • Device hardware alarm state information is updated every 5 seconds.
  • Switch lock status and lockdown time remaining is updated every 30 seconds.
  • All other device and port properties for a selected device are updated every 60 seconds.
  1. Select Discover Network Devices from the Tools menu; or, by press F5 anywhere on the main window.

The Discover Network Devices command is disabled until the entire discovery process completes. The status bar indicates the progress of device discovery.

  2. When discovery is complete, the word Done appears in the status bar.
