Port mirroring for network traffic monitoring devices

Configure redirect mode for DeltaV Smart Switches

Note

Only the RM104 and RM1040 gigabit DeltaV Smart Switch models support packet redirect mode.

When the DeltaV Smart Switch is in the redirect mode, all other ports are mirrored to this port automatically. The switch with redirect mode enabled cannot have workstations or controllers or any other 2-way communications through it. It is strictly for collecting uplink ports from other mirrored switches.

This procedure uses the RM104 as an example. The command line prompt (Emerson RM104 >) will vary depending on the switch model.

  1. Log on to the computer and DeltaV with administrative privilege.
  2. Select the switch from the list and right click.
  3. Select the Advanced Device Options → SSH to Switch option.
The menu is only enabled for users with the administrative privileges.
  4. Issue the following commands from the Command Line Interface (CLI):

    User: admin

    Password:********

    Note

Enter '?' for Command Help. Command help displays all options that are valid for the 'normal' command forms of that particular mode. For a list of valid 'no' command forms for that mode, enter the help command 'no ?'. For the syntax of a particular command form, please consult the documentation.

    (Emerson RM104)>deltav monitor cmn-wizard

!!!This wizard can be used to configure the switch to operate in a central mirroring network (cmn).
!!! In this mode, the switch forwards all traffic to one given destination port
!!! and cannot be used in an ACN.

Are you sure you want to continue? (y/n): y

Enter Probe Port (e.g. 1/1). All traffic received on other ports will be redirected to this port: 1/24

Mode for the central mirroring network is now enabled.
All traffic is now redirected to port 1/24 and the switch cannot be used in an ACN.
Please use deltav default to revert to ACN mode if necessary.

Do you want to save the current configuration? (y/n): y
