Unlock switches

Note

DeltaV Smart Switches must be unlocked before any network maintenance or troubleshooting is attempted to eliminate the risk of having to manually connect to the switch using the serial port to reset the switch and recommission it.

Use the Unlock command to unlock the ports on a switch or group of switches. You can invoke the command from the context (right click) menu in several locations:
  • From the Commissioned Devices list.
  • From the network's Summary pane.
  • From the individual switch.
  1. Select one or more switches as explained above.
  2. From the context menu, select the Unlock option. The wording of the option varies depending on what you have selected to unlock.
    The Unlock Status dialog appears.
  3. Select or deselect the Lockdown Timer check box as required.

The Unlock Status dialog reports the actions being taken for each switch. If a switch's name is not known (switches with non-communicating switch modules) the status dialog includes the IP address. If a switch cannot be unlocked, the status dialog reports the failure and continues to unlock the remaining switches.

When the lockdown command is performed on a previously unlocked switch, NDCC performs the command as if the switch was not unlocked before. This means that:
  • If the switch does not have a lockdown timer and the unlock status dialog's lockdown timer checkbox is checked, the switch is assigned a lockdown timer.
  • If the switch has a lockdown timer and the lockdown timer checkbox is unchecked, the lockdown timer for the switch is removed.
  • If the switch has a lockdown timer and the lockdown timer checkbox is checked, the lockdown timer for the switch is reset back to 60 minutes.

Finally, it is also important to note that unlocking a switch will normally raise an ADVISE alarm on the corresponding switch module as one of the hardware alarm conditions supported by the module.
