Upgrade a fieldbus device: select the device first

Select this option when you want to upgrade one or more devices on an H1 segment (port) and each device has its own upgrade file.

In this option a list of devices is supplied first. The list shows all commissioned and standby devices, some of which may not be upgradable. To determine if a device is upgradable, select the device, then its upgrade file; the device will then be accessed for the final determination.

To upgrade H1 fieldbus devices by selecting the devices first:

Select H1 Fieldbus Device from the drop-down list in the opening window of the DeltaV Controller and I/O Upgrade Utility and click the Next button.
Select the controller node and click the Next button.
Select the fieldbus card and click the Next button.
Select either of the following upgrade options:
- Download and Activate new software.
- Download new software, but Activate it at a later time.
On the bottom part of the dialog, choose to select the devices first and click the Next button.
A dialog is displayed asking you to select a port. After selecting a port, a list of all of its Standby and Commissioned H1 devices is displayed.
Select the device. You will then be asked to browse for a file. Only the files that match the device are displayed.
Select an upgrade file and click Open. The DeltaV Controller and I/O Upgrade Utility connects to the device and determines if the device can be upgraded with the selected file. Messages may be shown that describe certain conditions associated with the upgrade.

Both the current software version running in the device and the new software version of the selected file are displayed. It may not be obvious which of the two versions is more recent in terms of manufacturer release because the format of the software version is manufacturer specific. You need to be aware of the upgrade file names and determine which version should be running in the device.

You can select more than one device and you can deselect a device by clicking it again.

You can change the selected file for a device by deselecting the device and reselecting it. When you reselect it, you will again be asked to select an upgrade file.

You can press the Refresh Devices button to update the list without losing any existing selections.

Note
After selecting a device, you can right-click it and select Properties from the context menu item to view additional information about the device and the upgrade.
Click Next to continue. The devices to be upgraded are shown in a list.
Click Next to initiate the upgrade and Yes on the warning dialog to confirm the upgrade.
