What happens during a Distributed CHARMs Scanner Module upgrade?

The upgrade process for Distributed CHARMs Scanner Modules differs from that for DeltaV controllers and I/O nodes. The following outline describes what happens after you launch the DeltaV Controller and I/O Upgrade Utility, select to upgrade Distributed CHARMs I/O Gateways, and click Next.

  1. The utility identifies and displays all the available nodes in the DeltaV system that include Distributed CHARMs I/O Gateways.
  2. You select the node containing the I/O Gateway with Scanner Modules you want to upgrade and click Next.
  3. The utility displays the I/O Gateway under the selected node, along with the hardware and software revision of the I/O Gateway.
  4. You select the I/O Gateway and click Next.
  5. The utility displays a warning and gives you an opportunity to cancel the upgrade. Clicking Yes causes the utility to download a new firmware image to the Scanner Module. Downloading a new firmware image does not affect operation of the Scanner Module and does not affect any running process.
  6. If the I/O Gateway contains redundant Scanner Modules, those Scanner Modules are now updated to the new firmware without affecting any running process. Additionally, I/O Blocks under the I/O Gateway that contain redundant Scanner Modules are also upgraded to the new firmware version. However, provisioned I/O Blocks that contain simplex Scanner Modules are not upgraded because doing so could interrupt running processes.

Important: If the I/O Gateway contains a simplex Scanner module, the utility displays the warning Partner Not Present. If you click Yes on this warning dialog, any running process will be affected. To avoid interrupting a running process, click No. You will need to use DeltaV Diagnostics to identify and upgrade provisioned simplex Scanner Modules.

  7. You repeat Steps 1-6 for all available nodes with Distributed CHARMs I/O Gateways.
