The Timeline Chart region is the main display in Alarm Mosaic and uses icons to graphically present up to 500 alarms on a timeline.
Alarms icons are displayed in vertical columns called containers. The number of containers visible on the timeline is dependent on the space provided by the window size and other panels within Alarm Mosaic. The amount of time represented by each container is called the container time interval. The default container time interval is 1m (one minute) but can be changed by the user in the toolbar menu. Changing the container time interval either increases or decreases the total time span displayed on the timeline; the width of the containers remains constant.
Alarm icons are presented in time order using
stacking, with the newest alarms appearing at the top regardless of their
priorities. If there is not enough vertical space available for all of the
alarms, an overflow icon [
] is displayed at the top
of the container with a numerical value indicating the number of alarms off the
top of the container stack. Double-clicking the icon decreases the container
time interval and can redistribute the alarms in columns of lesser time.
A Control Action events icon [
] is also displayed at the
top of the container showing the number of actions that occurred during that
container interval. The events are redistributed into the appropriate
container(s) when the container time interval is changed. Clicking the event
count icon highlights those events in the Control Actions region and brings at
least one row to the top.
By default, the timeline's right margin is set as the current time. It is possible to view time spans where the right margin represents an earlier time by using the scroll bar. The >| icon in the toolbar resets the right margin of the timeline to the current time. The total time span displayed in the timeline is a function of the container time interval (1 minute by default) and the amount of horizontal space available in the timeline pane to present containers.
