Steps in a PFC

The initial (start) step is the logical starting point of a PFC. Recipe Studio automatically adds the initial step to every new recipe. Between the initial step and the termination transition are steps that define the logic of a procedure, unit procedure, or operation. These steps represent an action or another PFC, depending on the recipe level, as shown in the following table.

By representing an entire PFC as a single step in another PFC, Recipe Studio lets you build the procedural hierarchy you need.

Procedural Function Chart Interrelationship

When you initially add a step, it is undefined. You can configure an undefined step by selecting the required unit procedure, operation, or phase. This selection provides instructions to the DeltaV system on how the recipe should function during production.

Steps can be placed on, and subsequently moved to, any location in a chart.
