S88 recipe types

The S88 standard defines four types of recipes for batch processing. They are defined as follows:

  • General Recipe - defines the recipe as site and equipment independent. The general recipe provides a very high-level view of requirements for a product that can be produced at many different sites. It includes general information on required equipment, raw materials, and the procedure without regard to production specifics. This type of recipe is usually created by a corporate chemist.

  • Site Recipe - derived from the general recipe by a process engineer, who includes information that is site specific. The site recipe translates the general recipe into a more specific version that allows for the types of equipment and raw materials available at the site. This type of recipe is designed to be used in many different process cells.

  • Master Recipe - derived from the site recipe by a control engineer, who includes process cell-specific information and actual equipment capabilities. This type of recipe is designed to be used on many different paths within the process cell.

The DeltaV Recipe Studio provides you with the tools to create master recipes for your products. A master recipe typically includes a procedure, a formula, and equipment requirements.

  • Control Recipe - defines the manufacture of a single batch of a specific product. This is the most specific type of recipe. When batches are queued for production, the DeltaV system automatically creates a control type of the master recipe. The control recipe contains specific information for the batch, including formula parameter values and the equipment path that will produce the batch.
