Create an ODBC data source

The procedure you use to create an ODBC data source depends on whether you are on a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.

Note

The 32-bit version of Microsoft Access must already be installed (DeltaV software does not support 64-bit versions of Microsoft Office) and the database must exist prior to completing the ODBC data source connection. The ODBC Data Source Name is needed to connect User-Defined Export and Import with the Access database and table you created.

  1. How you begin depends on your operating system.
    • On a 32-bit operating system:
      1. Go to Control PanelAdministrative Tools.

      2. Double-click Data Sources (ODBC).

    • On a 64-bit operating system:
      1. Navigate to the \Windows\SysWoW64 folder.

      2. Double-click Odbcad32.exe

The ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog opens.
  2. Click the File DSN tab.
    Note

File DSN is the only valid choice when creating an ODBC source for a user-defined import or export.

  3. Click Add.
  4. On the Create New Data Source dialog select the appropriate driver:
    Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb).
  5. Click Next.
  6. Browse to a location in which to save the .dsn data source file and give it a name.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Verify the name and location for the .dsn data source file.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Click Finish to create the data source.
  11. On the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog, click Select.
  12. In the Select Database dialog select the previously-created Microsoft database to be associated with your .dsn Data Source File.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Click OK on the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog.
  15. Click OK on the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog.
