Working in the DeltaV Live environment

This topic provides descriptions for some of the common functionality available to you in DeltaV Live. For Information specific to working with displays, refer to the topic, Working with displays in DeltaV Live.

Switching between Window mode and Full Desktop mode

If a layout's navigation bar includes a Switch Mode button, you can click the button to toggle between Window mode and Full Desktop mode.
  • Click to switch to Window mode.
  • Click to switch to Full Desktop mode.

Restarting and exiting DeltaV Live

The Exit DeltaV Live button () is available when you are in Full Desktop mode. This button lets you either restart or exit DeltaV Live. Click the button and select either Restart DeltaV live or Exit DeltaV Live.

Launching applications

You can open commonly accessed DeltaV applications from a layout's menu bar (through DeltaV Utilities ) or from display objects that have been configured to launch an application. The buttons available on a menu bar depend on what is configured for that layout and on the access privileges assigned to you through the DeltaV User Manager application.

If configured to do so, applications may also launch automatically within a web browser graphic or when triggered by an event, such as the opening of a display.

Printing

Both displays and screens can be printed as they appear in DeltaV Live. You can print to any printer installed on that workstation or to various types of documents (such as XPS or PDF). When printing displays, you can choose to print the content of a single display frame or open pop-up window. When printing screens, you can choose to print a single screen or all screens in the running layout. To print, click  → Print, and choose from the following print settings:
Print scope
Choose whether to print the entire document or a specified number of pages.
  • All Pages prints all pages appearing in the print preview pane.
  • User pages prints the pages specified in the Pages field.
Choose whether to print screens or displays.
  • Print Screen(s) prints each screen designated for printing on its own page.
  • Print Display(s) prints each display frame designated for printing on its own page.
Print scale
Choose the scale for the documents to be printed.
  • Scale to Fit reduces or enlarges each page to fit the printable area of the currently selected paper size, with a .2–inch margin.
  • Scale Down reduces each page to fit the printable area of the currently selected paper size, with a .2–inch margin. If a page is too large for the printable area, it is automatically scaled to fit.
  • Don't Scale prints the document(s) at 100 percent of its actual size. Pages that do not fit on the selected paper size are cropped and printed on multiple pages.
Paper size and page orientation

Choose the paper size on which to print.

Choose the orientation mode for your printed document(s).
  • Landscape prints the document(s) horizontally.
  • Portrait prints the document(s) vertically.
  • Best Fit prints the document(s) in the orientation that best fits it.
Note:
Click Printer Properties for advanced printer settings.

Resetting the layout

Resetting the layout resets the layout to its original configuration (the configuration in place when this instance of DeltaV Live was started). That is, clicking Reset Layout resets all screens to the configuration in place when this instance of DeltaV Live started.

To reset the layout, click  → Reset Layout.

Adjusting the magnification of a layout

To adjust the magnification of the entire layout, click  → Layout Scale and select the desired magnification size.

Refreshing DeltaV Live configuration

Once configurations are used in a DeltaV Live instance, they are cached and reused until a manual refresh occurs. Updated configurations do not automatically replace older configurations that are either cached or currently being used in a DeltaV Live instance.

When newer versions of cached configurations are available, an indicator appears on a menu bar's Refresh button . This indicator reports the presence of any new configuration versions that are available for use in this workstation/session either since this DeltaV Live instance started or since the last refresh. You can choose when to accept the updated configuration, thereby ensuring that your normal workflow is not interrupted. DeltaV Live automatically fetches the newest versions of uncached (not opened recently) configurations when they are first used.

Refreshing DeltaV Live configuration (or restarting a DeltaV Live instance) replaces all cached configuration with the newer deployed versions while retaining its current running context, in all DeltaV Live instances running in that Windows session. In other words, all new and updated graphic configuration that have been published since the last DeltaV Live refresh become available to use in DeltaV Live, including layouts, languages, themes, display sets, displays, and display content. However, a refresh maintains the current display set, language, and theme, and reopens the displays running at the time of the refresh. If a different layout has been assigned to this workstation since the last refresh or restart, the new layout replaces the current one.

Changing the active display set

A display set defines the collection of displays that are available on an operator workstation or remote client session. The displays within a display set are intended to match the specific responsibilities of the control room they are used in and the operator roles for which they are created. Display sets also provide built-in navigation tools that help operators efficiently navigate their displays. These navigation tools, which are accessible through navigation bars, provide automatic routing and coordination for displays, according to their position in the hierarchy.

If more than one display set is available, you can switch display sets by clicking  → Display Set and selecting the desired display set. Then refresh the configuration to update the layout with the new display set.

Changing the colors in your graphics

Themes offer a means to adjust the colors appearing in your layout and displays so that they meet your control room environment needs. For example, if you are in a low-lighting control room environment, choose a theme that minimizes eye fatigue. Available themes, if any, appear in the DeltaV Live Tools menu under Themes. To change the theme, click  → Themes and select the desired theme; then refresh the configuration to update the layout with the new theme.

Changing the language in which text appears

DeltaV Live languages provide a means for you to view the text that appears on graphics, such as data link and button labels, in your preferred language. Available languages, if any, appear in the DeltaV Live Tools menu when more than one language is active in the system. To change the language, click  → Languages; then click the drop-down arrow in the menu and select the desired language. Refresh the configuration to update all text with the selected language.
