Locate communication problems

Occasionally, it may be difficult to determine the source of a communications problem using only the visual indicators. Selecting Control Network in the hierarchy provides a quick overview of both Primary (PRI) and Secondary (SEC) parameters to help determine the source of the communication problem. OCInteg shows overall connection integrity and is BAD when any connection to the node is BAD. A connection is established on the Primary link (and the Secondary link if it exists) between nodes expecting to communicate. For example, if a communication problem exists on the secondary connection between two controllers, the appears on the Secondary communications subsystems for both controllers and the value for SEC-OCInteg is BAD for both controllers.

Look at OLInteg

To locate the source of the communication problem when three or more controllers are communicating, look at the OLInteg parameter. OLInteg shows overall link integrity and is BAD when all connections to this node are BAD. If OLInteg is GOOD, this node is able to communicate with at least one other node; if it is BAD, this node is unable to communicate with any other node. Typically, an OLInteg value of BAD indicates the source of the problem. Note if a node is communicating with only one other node, both OCInteg and OLInteg will be BAD whether or not that node is the source of the problem.

Display the Communication Connection List dialog

Additional details are available by showing the current status of communications between a node and all of the nodes with which it is communicating.

To display the Communication Connection List dialog

  1. Select the communications level (Primary or Secondary, the same list is shown for both) for one of the affected nodes.
  2. Right-click, and then select Display Comm Connection List.
  3. In the Communication Connection List dialog, look at the value for PriStatus or SecStatus. Note Pri/SecStatus is always UNKNOWN on the node being looked at, since it does not try to communicate with itself.

To display communication details about a specific node

Select the node, and then click the Node Details button to see specific packet and error counters for the connection.
