Lock or unlock a HART device

To prevent or allow a handheld device from issuing write commands to a selected HART device, open the Lock/Unlock HART Device dialog by right-clicking the device in the hierarchy, and then clicking Lock/Unlock Device… on the context menu. In DeltaV Explorer, you can also open this dialog by selecting the device in the hierarchy, and then clicking Lock/Unlock Device… on the Object menu.

When you open the Lock/Unlock HART Device dialog, DeltaV retrieves the lock/unlock/write-protected status of the device and enables either the Lock or Unlock button.

• If the device is unlocked, you can prevent configuration changes by clicking Lock.
• If the device is write-protected by the primary master (DeltaV or the AMS Device Manager), you can remove the write-protection by clicking Unlock.
• If the HART device is locked by the secondary master or by the wireless gateway for a handheld configuration device, the Unlock button is disabled.
