Monitor controller and workstation time utilization

Controller and workstation resources are partitioned so that a percentage of available processor time is allocated to functions such as control, communication, self diagnostics, and so on. For example, controller resources are partitioned and allocated for module execution, communications, self diagnostics, interrupt service routines, operating system overhead, and so on. If controller or workstation CPU becomes overloaded in any area, operation can degrade resulting in stale data. Use the Windows Performance Monitor program to monitor how controller and workstation time is being used.

To monitor controller or workstation time utilization

  1. Right-click the controller or workstation that you want to monitor.
  2. Select Time Utilization Chart.
  3. The Performance Monitor program opens at a chart showing current processor time utilization for the controller or workstation.
Tip

To edit a chart line in the Performance Monitor, click EditEdit Chart Line. For help on the Performance Monitor program click HelpContents. For help on any of the Performance Monitor dialogs, click the Help button.
