Display communications details

  1. Select the communications subsystem (Primary or Secondary) that you are interested in.
    Note

On a remote workstation, select the Control Network.

  2. Right-click, and then click Display Comm Connection List to open the Communication Connection List dialog. This dialog shows the node name, node ID, primary and secondary addresses of the selected node, and the status of all nodes that are communicating with the selected node.
    Note

If multiple workstations, trying to communicate to the same controller, are reporting communication problems and the controller itself is not reporting a communication problem, the problem might be communication message timeouts due to very heavy controller loading. To troubleshoot this situation, select the Communications subsystem under one of the workstations, right-click, and then select Display Comm Connection List. In the Communication Connection List dialog, select the controller, click Node Details, and then check the communication details between the workstation and the controller. If the SyncsSent and AckTOut values between the two nodes is high, decrease the controller loading.

    Note

For a description of a communication value such as Connection To, or a diagnostic parameter such as State, click the value or parameter name.

  3. To view communication details about a connection, select a node name in the list, and then click the Node Details button to open the Communication Details dialog. This dialog shows communication values, such as status and counters, for that connection.
    Note

For help on the communication values, click the column headings (Primary, Detail, and Secondary).

  4. Click the Reset Details button to reset the counters to 0.
