Fieldbus devices are able to perform standard process control algorithms. A fieldbus device has one or more function blocks embedded in it to support control. The number and type of function block depends on the device. As a result, these DeltaV function blocks can be converted to a fieldbus device. When a DeltaV function block is assigned to a fieldbus device and the associated module and the fieldbus device are downloaded, the function block executes within the fieldbus device rather than in the DeltaV controller.
You assign a DeltaV function block to a fieldbus device in Control Studio as part of module configuration. For example, the AI block in a simple loop module can be configured to execute in a fieldbus device. Once the module is downloaded, the controller can access the parameter values of the associated Fieldbus function blocks from the fieldbus device.
