Configure SIS secure parameters

To transfer data from one SIS module to another, you must configure a Secure Parameter and a Secure Parameter Reference. This pair (parameter and reference) is required whether the SIS modules are assigned to the same Logic Solver or different Logic Solvers. If you are using simulated Logic Solver cards on a ProfessionalPLUS workstation, both SIS modules (the one containing the Secure Parameter and the one containing the Secure Parameter Reference) must reside on the same ProfessionalPLUS workstation in order for communication to take place.

Only Boolean data can be transferred between SIS modules; floating point and integer data cannot be transferred using the secure parameter and reference. Multiple Secure Parameter References can refer to the same Secure Parameter.

This procedure assumes an SIS module named SOURCE is open in Control Studio and you want to transfer data from it to an existing SIS module, DEST.

  1. Drag a Secure Parameter from the Special Items palette to the function block diagram.

A Properties dialog appears with a parameter type of Boolean with status.

  2. Name the parameter, select a parameter category, change the value, if desired, and then click OK.
  3. Connect a Boolean parameter to the Secure Parameter.
  4. Click the Main button , and then click Save.

If the module is assigned to a Logic Solver, the database verifies that the Logic Solver has a Secure Parameter slot available, and assigns the slot for the parameter. (A Logic Solver has as many as 8 slots for Secure Parameters. An SIS module that is not assigned to a Logic Solver can have as many as 8 Secure Parameters.)

  5. Open a different SIS module, such as DEST.
  6. Drag a Secure Parameter Reference onto its function block diagram.

A Properties dialog opens for the Secure Parameter Reference.

  7. Name the parameter and select a parameter category.
  8. Click the Browse button.
  9. Browse for the Secure Parameter that you defined in the SIS module named SOURCE, and then click OK.
    Note

On SLS 1508 systems the database checks that the Secure Parameter being referenced is either on the local peer bus or published globally.

  10. Click the Main button, and then click Save.
