Understanding DeltaV Operate files and directories

The DeltaV Operate folders are located on your hard drive based on your installation options. There are several directory options available during the installation of DeltaV software:

DeltaV Operate also has two (2) main graphics directories: C:\DeltaV\iFix and \DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix. The first directory contains the DeltaV Operate executables and support files and the latter contains the graphics and user files. The location of the second directory depends on which install option was selected (where DVData was installed).

Additional details about the directories are shown in the following list and table:

Directory Description
C:\DeltaV\iFix\

Contains the DeltaV Operate system files and the backup copy of the installed LOCAL, PDB, and PIC directories.

\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\

Contains operator graphics and is referred to as the working directory. This directory contains graphics supplied by Emerson as well as user-created graphics that are used by DeltaV Operate.

This directory has three (3) main subdirectories: LOCAL, PDB, and PIC.

\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix \LOCAL

Contains the configuration files associated with the local computer. The following are short descriptions of some of the important files located in this directory:

  • *.TBX – Toolbar file. Each toolbar in DeltaV Operate (Configure mode) corresponds to one of these tbx files.

  • *.TBC –Toolbar category file.

  • *.SCU – System Configuration Utility file. Defines the file location for DeltaV Operate installed on the local machine. The file ‘ThisNode.SCU’ is the default SCU Local Startup Configuration File.

  • *.INI – Initialization file. Several initialization files are located in this directory.

  • SystemTree.CSV – Comma-Separated Values file. Contains the configuration setting of Workspace System Tree. This file determines how projects are opened and shown.

  • *.TEMPLATE – Layout Template file. The layout template files (for example, DeltaVPicture.Template and DeltaV_OK_Picture.Template) are similar to .ini files. The layout files are used to modify the picture layout and to change the default allocation of DeltaV screens to hardware monitors.

\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix \PDB Both the Emerson supplied and user-created schedules (*.evs) are kept in this directory.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix \PIC

Contains pictures and user-defined files.

  • *.GRF – Process Graphic files. All DeltaV Main graphics are stored in the root of this directory while pop-up pictures like faceplate and detail faceplate are stored in the subdirectories under this directory.

  • *.TGD - Tag Group Definition files. Aside from the user configured tag group files, DeltaV Operate dynamically creates its own TGD files in the form of XXXfaceplatename.tgd or YYY-SessionNamefaceplatename.tgd files. These files are created/modified when faceplates are called up.

  • *.TGS –Tag Group Storage files

  • *.FXG – Global Project files. These files contain the Global subroutines and variables used by various parts of the system.

  • *.FTB - Color Shade table file

  • *.FDS – Dynamo sets

\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \Detail Contains all detail faceplate pictures.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \DetailFB Contains all function block detail pictures.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \Extra_Dynamos Contains additional dynamo sets.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \Faceplate Contains all faceplate pictures.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \FaceplateFB Contains all function block faceplate pictures.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \Help Contains Toolbar Help and Alarm Banner Help pictures.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \POC Contains pictures for DeltaV Operate for PROVOX.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \RS3 Contains pictures for DeltaV Operate for RS3.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \Standard Contains DeltaV mon-Main pictures; such as, Toolbar, Alarm Banner, Display Directory, Main History, Module History, and UserSettings files.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \Temp Contains multiple copies of the pop-up pictures such as faceplate and detail pictures. When the Update Pop-up Pictures run, the multiple copies are created or modified in this directory.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \Templates Contains template files for creating new pictures.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \Trend Contains all trend pictures.
\DeltaV\DVData\Graphics-iFix\PIC \TrendFB Contains all function block trend pictures.
Note

You have the option to have a backup directory by enabling Always Create Backup Copy in the User Preferences dialog in DeltaV Operate. This option allows you to automatically copy the previous version of a file to a backup directory each time a new version is saved. If a backup file already exists, the new backup file replaces it.

These backup directories are not replicated to other workstations by the Auto-Update Service.
