Assign an area to a workstation

You assign an area to a workstation in order to define the workstation's span of control. The workstation monitors all the modules in its assigned areas. This enables the workstation to display modules' alarms to the operator, and to record alarms and other events in the Event Chronicle.

  1. Navigate to the areas (System Configuration/Control Strategies).
  2. Select an area.
  3. Drag the area to the workstation or to the Alarms and Events subsystem. The area name appears in the right pane.
    Note:
    • If a module is in alarm, only workstations that have the associated area assigned can display the alarm to an operator.
    • In order for system-wide events such as logins, logouts, and downloads to be recorded, AREA_A must be assigned to the Alarms and Events subsystem under the ProfessionalPLUS and all Operator stations; as well as any Remote Client sessions configured under these workstations.
    • In order for certain operations (such as alarm area filtering) to function correctly, one of the following must be true on the ProfessionalPLUS and all Operator stations:
      • AREA_A is assigned to the Alarms and Events subsystem.

        OR

      • In the workstation's Properties dialog General tab, the Restrict on-line changes to areas assigned to the Alarms and Events subsystem of this workstation is unchecked.
      • Additionally, AREA_A must also be assigned to the Alarms and Events object under any Remote Client session configured under the above workstations.
