The Advanced Continuous Historian > Backup and restore the Advanced Continuous Historian

Create an incremental backup of the Advanced Continuous Historian

Once a baseline (full) backup has been created, incremental backups can be performed periodically to update the baseline backup with changes to the data. The incremental backup requires less backup time compared to running a full backup every time.

It is highly recommended to back up the backup files to a separate location or drive.

  1. Open a command prompt window on the Advanced Continuous Historian node and change to the C:\Program Files\PI\Adm directory.
  2. Type pibackup backupdir –incremental (where backupdir is the desired backup location (for example, D:\ACHBackup).
  3. Confirm that the backup operation was successful by following these steps:
    1. Check for the message pibackup.bat script completed successfully in the command prompt window.
    2. Verify a log entry for successful backup using PI System Management Tools(PI SMT) application on the Application Station.
      1. Open PI SMT.
      2. Expand the Operation tree and select Message Logs.
      3. Select the Refresh button to list the logs and look for the entry:
        Backup operation completed successfully
