Importing an EDS file into the DeltaV Explorer Library creates a hierarchy of categories (Vendor Name, Device Name, Major Revision) under DeviceNet Devices in the DeltaV Explorer Library. Once you import an EDS file into the library, you can modify device input/output sizes, select the parameters to download, and modify parameter values. Right-click the revision in the library and select Properties to see the revision properties (Vendor ID, Device Type, and Product Code, other device information, and default values for the input/output sizes).
Only text files encoded with the ANSI character set with 8-bits per character can be imported into the DeltaV system. The DeltaV system cannot parse an .EDS file created or saved in the Unicode character set and will display an error message during the import of a Unicode EDS file. If you receive a parsing error during import of an EDS file, convert the file to ANSI format by opening the file with Textpad and saving it as ANSI. After converting the file to ANSI, ensure that the file extension is .EDS (or .eds) and not .txt before importing it into the DeltaV system.
Any changes that you make to a revision at the Library level (modifying parameter values, input/output sizes, signal values) other than parameter download options will affect future instances of the device but existing instances of the device are not affected. Changes made to device parameters, I/O sizes, or signals at the device level affect only that device.
