I/O licensing

DeviceNet I/O license demand guidelines

The system requires only one I/O license for references to as many as 16 I/O signal-bearing parameters per device. The system consumes a single license of the most expensive type used. The license costs are (from highest to lowest): AO, AI, DO and DI.

Table: DeviceNet signal-bearing parameters and license demand requirements
Parameter name I/O license type used
FIELD_VAL AI
FIELD_VAL_D DI
OUT AO
OUT_D DO

Multiple module references to the same parameter do not affect the count. For DeviceNet devices with more than 16 signal parameters referenced by modules, the 15 least expensive I/O parameters do not require a license. The remaining parameters each cause an I/O license demand.

The figures provide example license requirements using the I/O License Demand dialog. The following figure shows 22 module references to nine different parameters in a single device. This results in a demand for a single AI license because the number of unique references is within the 16 parameter guideline per device. The AI license is the most expensive license used.

The following figure shows 26 module references to 18 different parameters in a single device. This results in a demand for three licenses. The first, most expensive license (AO), meets the demand for 16 parameter references. Two additional licenses (one AI and one DO) are required for the unique parameters over 16.
