DeltaV Explorer Library contains many device definitions. A device definition contains information for a specific HART device type and revision. The device definitions are available in the DeltaV Explorer under Library/HART Devices. When you autosense a HART device, the system attempts to match the device with a device definition in the library. If you want to use HART devices that are not part of the DeltaV install image, you can install a set of device description files on the ProfessionalPLUS workstation. Refer to DeltaV Explorer help for information on how to use the Add Device Type command.
If there is no definition available in the library for your device, you can also use the conventional manufacturer definition that most closely matches the function of the device. Conventional manufacturer definitions enable devices to be used in your control system but these devices many have limitations with regard to device alerts until a specific device definition is available. The conventional manufacturer definitions are available under the HART Devices in the DeltaV Explorer library.
You cannot delete a HART device definition if your configuration includes a device that uses that definition.
