HART device templates enable you to create device configurations for reuse. You can create HART device templates from DeltaV Explorer and I/O Studio.
Using DeltaV Explorer, you can create a HART device template from a device description, another HART device template, or a device using the drag and drop feature in DeltaV Explorer. You modify the properties of the template and use it to create device configurations for your control system. I/O Studio enables you to see and use the HART device templates that you create in DeltaV Explorer. You can also create HART Device templates in I/O Studio.
Device templates are ideal for creating and defining multiple devices from the same basic configuration. For HART devices associated with either CHARMS, or LS CHARMS, when you assign a device template to a device in I/O Studio, the system maintains a link between the data in the template and the device.
If at some point the values in the device no longer match the template values, I/O Studio indicates which values do not match the template and enables you to apply the values from the template.
