DeltaV PK Merge utility overview > Check Readiness

Using Excel to view the check readiness XML file

This procedure explains one way to view and work with the Standalone DeltaV PK controller's check readiness export file (in xml format) to see the names in your project that conflict with the DetlaV balance-of-plant database.

During the check readiness step of the merge process, you have the option of exporting the results to an xml file (named CheckReadiness.xml by default). This is an XML file and therefore can be opened in any text editor, xml editor, and most spreadsheet applications, such as Microsoft's Excel application.

These instructions are based on Excel 2016. If you are using another application or another version of Excel, the steps will vary. Consult the application's online help.

  1. Save the CheckReadiness.xml file by selecting the Save Results to File button on the Check Readiness page of the DeltaV PK Merge utility.
  2. Open Excel to a blank workbook.
  3. Create a schema for the CheckReadiness file in Excel.
    1. In Excel, select File → Open → Browse.
    2. Select the CheckReadiness.xml file and click Open.
    3. On the Open XML window, select the Use XML Source Task Pane option.
    4. A prompt stating that the specified XML does not refer to a schema and that Excel will create one based on the file's XML source data. Click OK.
A new workbook is created with an XML Source task pane.
  4. Create the data fields in the spreadsheet.
    1. In the XML Source task pane, select and drag the ConflictingNames folder onto the top left cell (A1).
This inserts the field names for the conflicting names section of the XML file.
  5. Import the data from the CheckReadiness.xml file.
    1. Right click one of the column labels (Name, for example).
    2. Select XML → Import.
    3. Select the CheckReadiness.xml file (the same one you used to create the schema).
  6. Filter and sort the data as needed in Excel.
