If an alarm uses an unresolved external reference parameter for either the %P1 or %P2 message variable, the alarm cannot become active. Avoid using parameters of the external reference type for alarm message parameters. Alarm message parameters are defined on the Advanced tab of the Alarm Properties dialog.
