DeltaV Smart Switches > Commissioning and monitoring DeltaV Smart Switches

Commissioning and managing switches with Network Device Command Center (NDCC)

DeltaV Smart Switches are intended for plug and play use with a DeltaV system and require no additional configuration to properly perform their switching functions in a DeltaV network. By default they contain no management network access (IP address) and function as unmanaged switches in a DeltaV network until they are commissioned. To use the full functionality of smart switches they must be commissioned using the Network Device Command Center (NDCC).

Note

NDCC requires that the network to be a flat network (no routing) to the switch and/or firewall with which NDCC and the control modules will communicate. Therefore, network devices can be managed by NDCC only if the network is connected to the Application Station or ProfessionalPlus where that network's modules are running.

When commissioning a switch on the DeltaV ACN or Remote networks, you cannot select or enter an IP address to assign to a switch. Addresses on these networks are controlled by the DeltaV software and therefore, during switch commissioning, NDCC assigns an IP address in a range reserved for use by DeltaV software and you should not use addresses in these ranges for any other purpose.

When commissioning a switch on another of the networks (such as the Thin Client or Level 2.5 networks), you will be able to enter an IP address for the switch to use. In this way, if your plant policy requires that network switches be assigned static, known IP addresses, you can still use NDCC to commission and manage the switches.
