A Device Definition is a set of properties that define a physical
device. The highest-level property is the I/O Interface Type, which describes
how the device connects to or communicates with the DeltaV system. If you are
defining a device yourself, I/O Interface Type is the first property you
configure. The following are valid values for I/O Interface Type:
- Conventional: Devices that
use an analog signal instead of a communication protocol to send and receive
information. Conventional devices cannot store identifying tags.
- HART: Devices that use the
Highway Addressable Remote Transducer (HART) protocol to send and receive
digital information to and from a control or monitoring system. HART devices
can store identifying tags.
