Using I/O Studio to create and configure devices in a DeltaV system

Creating and configuring placeholders for I/O devices

A device placeholder is a DeltaV object that enables configuration of supported devices independent of a parent I/O node or I/O channel. You can create placeholders for I/O devices in I/O Studio and in DeltaV Explorer.

In I/O Studio, you can create a single device placeholder or multiple device placeholders. Click New on the I/O Tools menu and select Device, SIS Device, Create Device(s) from Master, or Create Multiple Devices from File.

Alternatively, you can convert unassigned I/O references into I/O device placeholders in I/O Studio by performing the following steps:

  4. Click the Tools tab.
  5. Select Configure as a Device.
