Creating and configuring placeholders for I/O devices

Creating multiple unallocated device placeholders from a file

You can create multiple unallocated device placeholders using one or more device masters by importing a comma-separated values (.csv) file that specifies the device tags and device masters to use when creating the placeholders.

The format for the .csv file is as follows:

Device Tag,Device Master

Device1,DMASTER

Device2,DMASTER

Device(N),DMASTER(N)

Note

The maximum number of placeholders you can create from a single file is 10,000.

Note

You can specify one or multiple device masters, but each device tag must be unique.

You can create the .csv file using any text editor or spreadsheet application. Save the .csv file on the hard drive of the DeltaV machine. To import the file in I/O Studio and create device placeholders, click the New icon and select Create Multiple Devices from File. In the Open dialog that appears, navigate to the .csv file, select the file, and click Open.
