Extend CHARM power to other I.S. baseplates

When I.S. CHARM Baseplates in a 96 CHARM system are installed on multiple DIN rails, CHARM Column Extenders and cables are used to extend redundant 24 VDC power and communication busses to the baseplates. The bottom column extender can be connected to CIOC carriers or to baseplates depending upon the physical location of the carrier and the baseplate. The top column extender can be connected to baseplates only. Be sure to install a Separation Wall on all baseplates and extenders.

CHARM Column Extender cables are available in three lengths:

A maximum of four extender pairs can be used and only one extender pair can exceed 0.5 meters (1.64 feet). The maximum bus length (the total length from the CIOC to the CHARM Column Terminator) is 5.5 meters (18 feet).

Figure: Example I.S. Installation with CHARM Column Extenders

For this procedure, it is assumed that at least one I.S. CHARM Baseplate is installed on a separate DIN rail from the other baseplates and CIOC carrier.

  1. Install a Separation Wall on the bottom extender.
  2. Slide together the connectors on the extender with the connectors on the carrier or baseplate.
The bottom column extender can be connected to CIOC carriers or to baseplates. The top column extender can be connected to baseplates only.
  3. Connect the cables between the extenders. Connect primary to primary and secondary to secondary.
