Defer a parameter

Deferring a step parameter creates a recipe parameter. That recipe parameter can have its value set at the current recipe level (if that recipe is released to production) or the next higher recipe level can set it. For example, if a step parameter (BASE) is deferred to a recipe parameter in an operation, then that operation is used as a step in a unit procedure, the value of the parameter (BASE) is set at the unit procedure level.

  1. Open the recipe to where you want to defer the parameter.
  2. Create a recipe parameter.
  3. Select the step that references the lower level recipe containing the parameter to be deferred.
  4. Select the parameter from the Parameter View.
  5. Right-click, and then select Properties from the context menu.
  6. Select Defer in the Origin field.
  7. Select the recipe parameter name created in step #2 in the Source field.
    Note

Only input phase parameters can be deferred. Report parameters can not be deferred.

    Tip

You can defer the step parameter without making the recipe parameter first. Recipe Studio will automatically create a recipe parameter of the correct type and category and within the proper range of engineering units when you type a name into the Source field. If there is already a recipe parameter that exists with that name but of a different type or category, you are warned and the existing recipe parameter is not changed.
