Windows services and a DeltaV system

Compare Windows services' current state to the DeltaV defaults

DeltaV Security Administration provides an audit comparison of the current state and the DDWSP of all Windows services. This report includes the service name, service status, startup type, log on as information, and source (as either DeltaV Default or Current State).

The source specifies from where the information was derived.
DeltaV Default
The information displayed was derived from the DeltaV default Windows services profile (DDWSP); that is, how the DeltaV installation configured the service. The DDWSP can be viewed by itself on the As Set by DeltaV Install page.
Current State
The information displayed was derived from capturing (a snapshot of) the services' information at the time of the report. The current state of all services can be viewed by itself on the Windows services' Current Settings page.
Important

Do not change the status of any service unless you are aware of the potential impact on the performance of your DeltaV system.

  1. Run DeltaV Security Administration.
  2. Expand the Windows Services on the Workstation item.
  3. Select the Audit Report Showing Differences item.
The report displays in the right pane.
  4. Scroll through the list of services noting any highlighted rows.
Highlighted text denotes a difference from the DDWSP. When the service is listed twice, it shows both the settings from both sources.
    • Yellow highlight - The service's current settings are different than the DDWSP.
    • Red highlight - The service is new or missing.
    • Green highlight - The change to the service is approved (that is, the service was once highlighted as red or yellow but that change is allowed and approved).
    Note

The Windows service audit will show some services as started or stopped periodically without any action taken by the user. This is due to the operating system behavior. Keep in mind that Windows services that differ from the DeltaV default profile could be due to changes by the operating system.

  5. Approve, reset to default, or undo change approval for any highlighted service where the source is Current State.
    1. Select the highlighted service.
    2. Right click the Current State row.
    3. Select one of the following (options change depending on what the difference is):
      • Add this Windows service as an approved change This sets the highlight to green.
      • Reset the Windows service back to the DeltaV default This removes the highlight once the changes are applied to the service (such as stopping or starting the service).
      • Remove this Windows service from the approved change list This removes the approval and sets the highlight back to the original color.
    Note

The list might need to be refreshed to see the new highlight. Simply open a new page (for example, Current Settings) and then go back to the Audit Report page.
