Redundant Batch
By using a pair of Application Stations, you can configure Redundant Batch (either Batch Executive or Campaign Manager or both) and remove the single point of failure in your system. Therefore, in the event of unexpected hardware issues or planned upgrades, the Application Station acting as the active node switches over to the Application Station running as the standby. Switchover events include, but are not limited to:
The active node loses communication
An unplanned shutdown of the active Application Station (note that this results in the Batch Manager being in the STOPPED state on the new active)
The loss of communication with the Batch Manager or Campaign Manager on the active node
An unplanned shutdown of a batch runner.
You can also manually initiate a switchover so that you can retain the functionality of your Batch subsystem under the following example conditions:
To upgrade your DeltaV software or other system software
To perform hardware or software maintenance or upgrades
To respond to an unstable process on the Application Station running as the active
Redundant Batch options allow you to enable redundancy for the Batch Executive and the Campaign Manager. The Batch Executive and the Campaign Manager can be enabled on the same redundant pair of workstations, or enabled on separate workstations.
The Batch Historian and the Soft Phase environment are not redundant in a Redundant Batch system.
