Configuration Assistant overview

Configuration Assistant provides a logical method to help you configure your system hardware and set up the basic control strategy for your process control system. The work you do in Configuration Assistant is captured in the database.

Although the first control strategy you create with Configuration Assistant may not be the exact configuration you want for controlling your process, it will be a good base upon which to build. You can later use the DeltaV Explorer and Control Studio to refine and enhance your system.

Generally, everything you can do in the configuration assistant you can also do through the DeltaV Explorer. Configuration Assistant includes a subset of the Explorer functionality presented in a structured, step-by-step approach. Click the Help button for a list of Configuration Assistant tasks that you can also do in the Explorer.

Configuration Assistant is for configuring basic system components. It does not support the configuration of all components. For example, Configuration Assistant does not support the configuration of PROVOX, RS3 and remote I/O.

Also, as with the DeltaV Explorer, Configuration Assistant enables you to add new modules and edit their properties, Control Studio is where you define the specific control functionality of the module.
