Before you can use the CHARMs Simulate application, you must put the
CIOCs that you want to simulate in simulate mode and then download the CIOC
setup data. The CIOC that you want to simulate should have one or more defined
CHARMs. In DeltaV Explorer and Diagnostics, it is easy to see that a CIOC is in
simulate mode because after the download, the CIOC's icon changes to
. When a CIOC is in simulate
mode, it simulates field values from its CHARMs, reports changes to the values,
and makes these values available for simulation using standard sawtooth or
square waveform patterns. The CIOC does not simulate HART values. The
advantages to simulating CHARM I/O by putting the CIOC in simulate mode are:
Third party software is not required
Existing hardware is used
It is easy to visually identify a CIOC in simulate mode
CIOC simulation requires no additional wiring or engineering of the system
Once the simulated configuration has been checked out, the simulated CIOC can be easily changed to its normal operating mode.
