The DeltaV I/O network > What are CHARMs?

Gateway and I/O Block diagnostic status parameters

Table: Gateway and I/O Block diagnostic status parameters
Name Conditions Meaning
CommStatus Port A Not Present Indicates the PortA IOP cannot be communicated with, normally this means the IOP has been unplugged.
Port B Not Present Indicates the PortB IOP cannot be communicated with, normally this means the IOP has been unplugged.
Port A no Comms Indicates the PortA IOP is present but is not receiving valid distributed CHARMs messages.
Port B no Comms Indicates the PortB IOP is present but is not receiving valid distributed CHARMs messages.
Port A Wrong IOP type Indicates the PortA IOP type, Star/Ring does not match the type that the scanner module detected at startup. This would happen if the Single Port Ring IOP was replaced by an 8 Port Star IOP or vice versa. This only applies to the Gateway.
Port B Wrong IOP Type Indicates the PortB IOP type, Star/Ring does not match the type that the scanner module detected at startup. This would happen if the Single Port Ring IOP was replaced by an 8 Port Star IOP or vice versa. This only applies to the Gateway.
Ring Broken When the Gateway and Blocks are in a ring configuration this indicates that there is a break somewhere in the ring, all scanner modules in the ring will show this error.
DeviceStatus Primary 24 Volt Power Invalid Indicates the Primary 24 Volt power is below the allowed value.
Secondary 24 Volt Power Invalid Indicates the Secondary 24 Volt power is below the allowed value.
Firmware Upgrade Pending Indicates that the scanner module has received a new firmware image and is waiting for the user to initiate the upgrade. This should only be seen on simplex scanner modules as a redundant would go ahead and upgrade.
Firmware Upgrade In Progress Indicates that a firmware upgrade is in progress.
Firmware Mismatch Indicates that the Block has a different version from the Gateway and will upgrade before it goes online. Only applies to blocks.
6 Volt Power Invalid Indicates the 6.3 Volt power is below the allowed value.
24 Volt Over Current Indicates the current on the 24V power has exceeded the allowed value.
Address Plug Error Indicates that the Address Plug is either not present or has a different value from that read at startup. Only applies to blocks.
IOStatus Primary Charm Bus Problem Indicates that the scanner module is having a problem on the Primary CHARM bus.
Secondary Charm Bus Problem Indicates that the scanner module is having a problem on the Secondary CHARM bus.
Primary Bus Tx Error Indicates that the scanner module has a Primary Slicebus transmitter issue.
Primary Bus Rx Error Indicates that the scanner module has a Primary Slicebus transmitter issue.
Secondary Bus Tx Error Indicates that the scanner module has a Secondary Slicebus transmitter issue.
Secondary Bus Rx Error Indicates that the scanner module has a Secondary Slicebus transmitter issue.
Charm Error Indicates that there is at least one charm that has bad integrity. Only applies to blocks.
RedundStatus Partner Not Available Indicates that the standby scanner module in a redundant setup is not currently available to take over.
Partner Not Present Indicates that the standby scanner module in a redundant setup is not physically present.
Dual Active Scanner Modules Indicates that both the scanner modules in a redundant setup think they should be the active. This normally indicates a redundancy link failure, only one scanner module will actually go active as only one can communicate on the slicebus and distributed CHARMs network.
