The CHARM I/O Carrier
installs on vertical T-type DIN rails.
Simplex or redundant CHARM
I/O Cards (CIOCs) plug into the slots on the
CHARM I/O Carrier.
The CHARM I/O Carrier
provides redundant 24 VDC power for the CIOC and bussed power for the field
circuits. Refer to the image
Figure: Powering the CHARM I/O Carrier for
information on powering the CHARM I/O Carrier.
The CHARM I/O Carrier
houses a primary and secondary I/O Port (IOP). There are two types of IOPs: a
copper IOP and a fiber-optic IOP. The copper IOP consists of a control network
port and a cascade port. The fiber-optic IOP consists of a control network port
only. The I/O ports are removeable. To remove an I/O port, depress the button
next to the I/O port and pull the I/O port out of the carrier. Refer to the
image
Figure: Connectors on the CHARM I/O Carrier
for the location of the IOPs on the carrier. The image shows a carrier with
copper IOPs.
Copper Ethernet cascade
ports (primary and secondary) on the CIOC I/O Carrier allow up to 16 CIOCs to
be connected together (daisy-chained) without wiring back to a central switch.
Fiber-optic I/O ports can be used for remotely located CIOCS. CIOCs with a
fiber-optic port cannot be daisy-chained and are used in star-connected
networks.
Redundant CIOCs connect to
the control network through primary and secondary ethernet connections on the
CIOC I/O Carrier.
